Sinclair Multifaith Campus Office:

A Center for Spiritual Life

Archdiocese of Cincinnati

“Campus Ministry is an expression of the Church’s special desire to be present to all who are involved in higher education. Campus ministry can be defined as the public presence and service through which properly prepared baptized persons are empowered by the Spirit to use their talents and gifts on behalf of the Church in order to be a sign and instrument of the kingdom in the academic worlds.” (National Conference of Catholic Bishops in their pastoral letter “Empowered by the Spirit Campus Ministry Faces the Future.”)

This specialized ministry to all in higher education is presented by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in their pastoral letter “Empowered by the Spirit Campus Ministry Faces the Future” and is carried out by dozens of lay ecclesial campus ministers and support persons in the Archdiocese.

The Archdiocese of Cincinnati funds and supports campus ministry at all large public institutions in the Archdiocese including the ministry at Sinclair Community College. Campus Ministers are certified by the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops and provide a wide variety of ministerial services (educational, liturgical, pastoral, ecumenical, and spiritual) within the higher education community. The ministry at Sinclair occurs through the generosity of the Catholic Ministries Appeal of the Archdiocese.

The mission of the ministry at Sinclair is threefold: to provide pastoral care to the Sinclair community, to provide educational resources at the intersection where the wisdom of the church tradition can inform the academy in its discourse, and to provide resources for spiritual growth and development using the great wealth of wisdom within the Catholic tradition. As contemporary culture continues to separate spirituality from religion and as the majority of Catholics are not engaged in a regular worship community, it is imperative now more than ever, that the mission theology of serving all the people of God in their worlds be lived out in campus ministry. The ministry at Sinclair is centered in an inter-faith spiritual life center which serves the entire Sinclair community.
